I grew up on the old games and still think many of them had a lot of character, a je ne sais quoi if you like
I remember the amiga coming out when amstrad664, C64, sinclair was around and the amiga was a step up in the gaming experience. Then the DOS games later on came into their own and some were really addictive.
Doom introduced me to DOS addictive games and we played LAN games of the origonal warcraft with pizza long hours after fridays at work too
Some of my fav games was cossacks and Shogun total war
Im a big Dune fan and outside games am discworld fan
